To Dream

If could, I would write you into my life,
So often dreamt of you I do not know,
I've known your name in night but not in day,
A knowledge treasured, lost in morning light,
From dreams more dark than I should treasure close,
I know your face, I love it every night.

I dream I should have called you mine at night,
But passing only you are in my life,
How dare I dream that you and me are close?
But nought can stop me wishing, that I know,
The lack of all I'll never see by night,
Can hinder not all that I dream today.

This love I cannot live by light of day,
To tell the knowledge giv'd by dark of night,
I've writ my dreams of you on pages light,
A story of somebody else's life,
Where I place you with her for me to know,
Instead of dreaming I could e'er get close.

How easily I can observe you close,
To see you is not hard even by day,
And all I can imagine that I know,
I give the page I write of you at night,
Presumption is not foreign to my life,
The postilation from that seen by light.

It's not I could be dazzled by your light,
A boy is all you are except when close,
And that I only dream into my life,
From glimpses that I catch of you in day,
But oh, such wicked dreams I have at night,
All that I can't imagine that I know.

And what of you could I say that I know?
A song, a fantasy that touches light,
Upon the waves of passion and of night,
And all my thoughts may never e'er come close,
To truth of you, and truth I want this day,
That truth of yours I would have in my life.

For late at night I think mayhaps I know,
A love that life I would could bath in light,
And hold me close, and give to me one day.
